6 Reasons The 9-5 Job (Government Job) Isn’t Good Enough For You

Typically, a lot of us think this way- 'I will finish college and look for a job in a big company and get paid.' Rather than thinking this way, why don't you think like this-
'before I finish college, I will create a job and earn my money through it.'

It is not a bad thing to prepare to work for a company and spend a huge chunk of your day at the office doing what someone else asks you to do but don't you think you'll be better off doing your own stuff and becoming financially free?

For these reasons listed below, I don't think a 9-5 job is the best way out to that kind of freedom...

1. Work Your Head Off

You have to work on a regular basis and there’s no time to take a break. You must make sure to reach a certain target set for you and until you reach this target, you can’t stop working. After that target has been met, another after another is set and you have to keep meeting them. Working your head off to get someone else job done is not fulfilling enough but imagine you were doing this for yourself, now that’s fulfilling.

2. You Don’t Run The Show

Unlike a personal business, whatever you do is not based solely on your decision. You are not the boss, you don’t run the show. You are virtually controlled. You are told when to take a break and when to work and there’s nothing you can do about it unless you are getting set to quit the job. You cannot wake up whenever you wish as you are stereotyped to a particular waking time.

3. You Can't Express Your Creativity

You can't decide what you wish to do with your time. You can't be creative and happy when you are not in control of your time. To be creative, you have to work with your own time and at your own pace, but this is not likely to happen when you work 9-5 every weekday.

4. No Job Security

In government jobs, job security is promised but at the end, your job is not actually secure. At any point in time workers can be laid off and you could be affected which can be quite devastating. No matter how well you work, a time could come where your services might no longer be needed and someone else will be in line to replace you and when this happens, you become history to the company.

5. No Early Retirement

If you are to stick to your 9-5 job, then you will know that you cannot retire early. You will work till you get to that certain fixed age for retirement. If you plan to retire early, you will see that you keep pushing your retirement forward because you haven't been able to secure financial freedom.

6. Pension

A lot of those that do these government jobs depend on their pension at the end of their service. You won’t be any different.  You will start expecting a pension which doesn’t often come and you will be so financially stressed.

Note: This post was for those that want to depend only on their 9-5 jobs. This is not to say that you cannot go on with a job such as this but depending totally on it without any side investment is the real problem. When you feel too comfortable with these jobs, you begin to feel there’s no need to do major investments and by the time you start realizing that the job is not enough financial security for you, it might be too late.
