Two very important things any business must have are the Vision and Mission. They are part of the core values of a business. When you start a business, make sure you have your vision and mission.
This is fulfilled by writing what is called the vision and mission statements. It will enable you stay within the circumference of your business target and goal.
Now, for a better understanding of these two statements and
for the purpose of writing this post, I will gradually explain your Vision and
Mission statements and why you must constantly remind yourself of them.
What Is A Vision
Statement?
A vision statement is a brief description of what the future of the company should be. It is a description of what the company would like to achieve and accomplish. With a vision statement, the direction of your company is guided, it is led towards the planned goal.
What Is A Mission Statement?
A mission statement is a declaration of your company’s focus. It helps to tell what you have to keep doing and what to stop doing to achieve success. It is what you should be doing ‘now’ to reach your vision goal. This statement should include a way to solve the customer's need and the way to improve the organization's services.
Connection Between A
Vision And Mission Statement
You must understand that the vision and mission statements
are different. The mission is a continuous action and the vision is the effect
of the action. The vision is the achievement of a target, while the mission is
the process of that achievement.
While your vision and mission statements are different, there is an obvious connection between them. Your mission is meant to achieve your vision. Without the vision, there’s no mission. All employees must have a knowledge of both the vision and the mission.
What You Should Keep In Mind When Preparing Your Vision And Mission Statements.
1. Your vision statement should be inspiring. It should inspire you to move on and work harder to accomplish your set future target.
2. Your vision and mission should be brief. You don't need to keep reading a long explanation of them. They should be short, easy to remember and precise.
3. A vision and mission statement must be very specific and detailed. Achieving goals is your aim so specificity is highly necessary. With a very detailed vision and mission statement, you will be able to constantly remind yourself where you are heading.
4. They must both connect to each other. If there's no connection, then it is useless.
How To Create A Vision And Mission Statement.
This is not an individual’s effort. It is the collective
effort of you and all the major people involved with your company. It is built
out of an agreement by these personalities, and the purpose for this is to produce
a statement that every member of the company will work by.
Remember that your vision and mission work hand in hand and
one must not be left out if not, you are only chasing shadows. No success will
be achieved.
For your business to gain and not lose, you must make sure that your vision and mission is clearly stated and understood by you and your team. Understanding them is the only way they can work. You must work constantly on your mission to get to your planned vision (destination).
